THE YELLOW CANARY CAFÉ

EST 1972

Independent since 1972

The Yellow Canary has been a St Ives mainstay since 1972, serving a myriad of locals and tourists year in, year out from our café within the cobbled heart of Fore Street. Since opening, we have stayed true to our roots and have remained fiercely independent and family-run ever since.

Our name derives from the canary, a tiny, bright yellow bird once used by Cornish miners to detect deadly gases that may have left the mines. Like the humble canary, we may be small, but we believe that we have made a real impact over the years, with faces both new, familiar, and furry flocking to us throughout all seasons.

We have worked closely with Origin Coffee of Helston to ensure that our offering is of the highest standard. Our baristas, alongside our trusty La Marzocco machine, serve coffee throughout the day and are more than happy to talk to you about the coffee we not only make, but sell as well.

Having recently undergone a refurbishment, developing the café to be a pared-back, relaxed, and bright space, we have more space than ever. Whilst our café is a far cry from the more traditional spaces in St Ives, our ethos remains the same as it did when we opened; quality produce and service is at the very centre of everything we do and we remain as passionate today as we did back then.

Cream tea by post

We believe that simplicity is key and that by using only the finest local produce, we can do justice to the humble cream tea. The cream teas that we deliver use the very same ingredients that we use in our café in St Ives: Rodda’s cream, Boddington’s Berries jam, and tea bags from the Cornish Tea Co.
